Today we had a 90 minute drive from Walpole to Albany, passing through Denmark along the way. As I have said before, this part of WA is terrific - similar to the northern rivers of NSW - if I was a cow or a sheep, this is where I would like to live.......... rolling green paddocks.
We did not stop at Denmark, despite it having a reputation for great meat pies - it was too early in the morning. Denmark looked like a pretty little town, but we have seen so many others, you can't stop at them all.
Albany is another lovely place. It is probably the second or third biggest city in WA with about 25,000 people. It is set on a magnificent bay.
This afternoon, we visited the old whaling station which is now a museum. It closed in 1978 and was the last whaling station to operate in Australia. It was very interesting - we spent 2 1/2 hours there - cost $23 per person.
After the museum, we visited some of the lookouts and beaches around the bay.
