Day 58 Port Hedland to Karrajini

Said goodbye to Greg at 6:30am as he was heading off on a bike ride with all the Harley riders in Port Hedland - about 20 of them. Said bye to Julie about 8am. The drive to Karijini took about 4 1/2 hours with a morning tea break and a fuel stop as well. Had morning tea at Bea Bea Creek rest area - the worst case of flies I have ever seen - I sprayed my face with Aerogard to keep them at bay!!

Karijini National Park is part of the Hammersley Range. The countryside is made up of red rocky hills and gorges covered in green spinifex. It is stark but also pretty. We are quite high here - we hit the 720 metre mark at one point along the drive - similar elevation to Toowoomba and like Toowoomba - it is freezing cold and blowing a gale - it is 9:17am as I type and only 11 degrees! We have had to make a mad scramble to dig out our woolies from under the bed. I cooked fried rice on an outside BBQ last night wearing a beanie....

The camping ground is basic - there are well marked sites and also numerous clean toilets and gas BBQs. There is no water or electricity. You can get water from near the visitors centre but they recommend boiling it if drinking it.
We have 3 water tanks in the van so we are pretty right - we are frugal with our showers, etc. The camping ground only costs $7 per person per night so that is a plus. We are in the generator section in case we need to top up our power but the solar panel is a great plus and I don't think we will need the genny unless we need to charge up computers, etc. My computer can charge in the car but Lorelle's can't.

There is no phone or Internet here. Also no radio or TV but you can get some radio stations at night.  We have heaps of DVD series to watch and we finfd that we are never bored in our spare time - playing on computers, playing cards, watching DVDs, etc.
