Day 62: Port Samson, Cossack, Roebourne, Karratha

Had a great day today. We started with Sue's birthday - gave her some presents and then set off for a day of exploration - first we went to the ghost town of Cossack which is 20km north of Port Samson - it is now a heritage town with lots of historical buildings. We thought we would be there for 30 minutes but spent over two hours - it was excellent - historical buildings which have been well restored and some beautiful countryside adjacent to the ocean.

We had a devonshire tea at the coffee shop in Cossack and then drove on to nearby Roebourne. Roebourne has a modern prison but it also has a very old prison which is now a museum and art/craft shop. It was also intersting.

Next it was on to Karratha which has the biggest shopping centre outside of Perth - hard to believe for a town of 11,000 people but really WA does not have the big provincial cities like Qld. It has a KMart, Woolworths, Coles, Country Target, etc. We did a bit of shopping and then it was time to go home (the van is now home!). After getting home, we had afternoon tea with Doug & Sue and Sue's birthday cake.

We then decided to take a walk to the beach (200 metres away) and took some photos of 'Stairway to the Moon' - the moon rising over the Indian Ocean and looking like stairs or ladder wrungs in the ocean.

It was then off home to cook dinner of BBQ garlic prawns - all up, a busy but fun day.

Tomorrow, I have to be in Karratha at 7am to get my brake pads replaced - I will have to get up at 5:45am to get there on time.

Hey Sue, hope you had a great birthday also. My god, the vans must have been packed to the hilt with all the presents that have been required.
