Day 64: Point Samson to Cane River Rest Area

We left Point Samson and headed out to Dampier which seems to be the port for Karratha. Despite this, it has some pretty beaches and scenery.

We stopped for morning tea at the Fortescue Roadhouse and then stopped 40km down the road at the Robe River rest Area where we were going to stop over night - there are a few lovely spots right on the water but not enough so we drove on another 40km to the Cane River - it is listed in the 'Camps Australia 6' but there is absolutely nothing here - no sign, no toilets, etc however it is probably one of our best rest areas - it looks like it hasn't been used in a while - we drove down to a cleared area beside the river and then decided to camp on the old bridge in the middle of the river- refer to photos - it is the biggest slab our vans have ever had - hope it doesn't rain tonight!!!!

The river was brown, however it was lovely and cool and great for photography - Mike V, you would love our holiday. I also tried my hand with the gold pan, but unfortunately, I will still have to go back to school in term 4......

Tomorrow, we head into Exmouth which is supposed to be beautiful so we will probably have a few days there.

Nine weeks of our holiday are over - 13 weeks to go. We think we are on track.
