Day 26: East Baines River rest area to Kununurra

Woke up at 7:15am and it had been quite a cool night - down to 13 degrees.
Not much to report today - it was an interesting drive (180km) with rugged escarpments to our right (north-west) for most of the trip.

When we reached the WA border, 'border guards' went through our van and car searching for fruit and vegetables - can't take any fresh fruit & vegs into WA  plus a few other processed products. Brings back memories of the 'Tick Gates' at the Tweed river many years ago.

After arriving at Kununurra, we went to our Van Park - Ivanhoe Tourist Park (Big4 - we are members of Big 4 & Top Tourist so we always get a discount).  It is a terrific park and we have the best, shadiest sites imaginable. Also it is so cool here - only 28 today.

We drove around the town - it is a very tidy, modern town of between 3000 & 6000 people - varies with season - very touristy with a Cairns feel.

We went to the Tourist Info Centre and booked a sunset cruise on Lake Argyle for tomorrow (half price $40 each!!!!)  We also booked tickets ($102) each for the Ord River Muster concert on Saturday night - Jimmy Barnes, Vanessa Amorossi, Pigram Brothers, Alex Lloyd & more......... (part of a 10 day local festival).

Anyway, got to go and get some tea - splurging on a take-a-way as yesterday was our 31st wedding anniversary.

The sun goes down early here at about 5pm.  If ringing, remember we are two hours later than you in Qld.
