Day 109: Ceduna

Happy birthday Lorelle! After having cereal & croissants for brekky, we went into town and visited the information centre. We purchased a painting by indigenous artist Margo Brown at a bargain price of $60 because their was no certificate of authenticity but it is signed by her and looks great. We then headed to the PO to send it home in a tube and also another pile of other souvenirs, etc. for Mick to collect.

After that we had morning tea in town before visiting the local lookout near where the ships come in - gypsum is exported by ship from Ceduna and over 65 ships a year come in to collect it. I'm not sure if it goes overseas or is sent around locations in Australia.

We then visited a local seafood processing store and purchased a "dozen oysters" (14 oysters in their shells freshly opened in front of us) plus a kilo of king prawns - Lorelle's favourite seafood. I'm not a great fan of prawns but I just love oysters and they were absolutely delicious. The Eyre Peninsula, of which Ceduna is a part, produces a huge number of oysters - you may have heard of Coffin Bay oysters - well Coffin Bay is coming up on our trip in the next couple of days but we're not waiting until then......

We had afternoon tea and a birthday cake (good old Sarah Lee!)  for Lorelle that afternoon andtonight we went out to the local pub for dinner - very nice. We even played the pokies - there are no pokies in WA!!

Happy Birthday Lorelle!
