Day 123: Adelaide

We slept in this morning until 9:20am as it was raining - coukd have slept in longer but we wanted to make the most of our last day in Adelaide.

Instead of catching buses today, I decided to drive and put my faith in the trusty TomTom which never let me down (not today anyway)!

First we drove into the parks which surround the Adelaide CBD and we found the River Torrens adjacent to the Festival Centre on the far bank and the Adelaide Cricket oval on our side. The river is very pretty and a lot wider than the trickle behind our caravan park. Although it was spitting rain, we managed to catch a low profile passenger boat "Popeye 11" (low to get under the low bridges) making its way along the river. We also saw a couple of rowing boats and some black swans. Altogether, we were impressed with the view and feel that we have become one with the river....... (Gee I'm getting poetic!).

Next, because we were parked outside the ACG, in we went to see the free Donald Bradman Museum - it was most enjoyable and after viewing the souvenir shop as well we walked out into the grounds to view the hallowed turf......... (more poetic licence).

After leaving the ACG, we decided to head over to Port Adelaide - there are some very old buildings there which reminded us of freemantle. There was however not much that we wanted to do there (we did not want to go through any more museums), so we headed off on the coastal tourist drive which took us to the pleasant little town of Semaphore. I asked Lorelle if she knew what semaphore was but she had once been a girl guide and said she could even go through the alphabet for me if I liked - I shut up after that.

Anyway, Semaphore was a nice little town with a good beach and jetty so we stopped there and shared a pizza for lunch.

After lunch we continued past the port where we saw a line-up of more than 50 trucks waiting to unload a container ship which must have just arrived - I'd like to have the patent on shipping containers!   And then it was back to the van where I am now typing the blog and it is again raining.

Tomorrow morning we are heading to Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley for two nights. The maximum temperature tomorrow there is predicted to be 12 degrees..........
