Days 114-115 (Port Lincoln to Port Augusta) (Port Augusta to Wilpena Pound)

DAY 114
Not much to report today - we drove from Port Lincoln to Port Augusta, approximately 350km. We had morning tea at Cowell, which is supposed to have the best oysters on the Eyre Peninsula but we have had enough oysters for now......

We arrived at Port Augusta around 2pm and went to a motorhome camping area at the back of the local sports centre.  We camped there for the night and it cost $5. We didn't do anything that afternoon because it was cold and wet, although I did walk 5km (round trip) to get some KFC for dinner.

DAY 115
This morning I drove into town at 9am because I had to collect a parcel from the Post Office. We then went through the Wadlata Centre in Port Augusta which was a interactive display/museum/history of the land. it was Ok but we have seen most of it before.

We then set off for the Flinders Ranges. We arrived in Quorn (only 45km from P.A. )for morning tea - it was quite icy but a cup of hot milo kept us going.  We then drove through the small town of Hawker and arrived at Wilpena Pound Camping Ground at about 2pm. The drive was picturesque and the camping ground looked great. We initially booked for two nights but thewn went back and changed it to four nights - we are camping in the mountains in the middle of winter - it is beautiful...... (we also have power, water and a phone signal!!!!!).

This afternoon, we drove to a lookout 20km from the camping ground to observe the sunset. It was absolutely freezing cold but the sunset was nice. Coming home, there were kangaroos everywhere - we took it very easy.

Flinders Ranges is a great place to visit. It is particularly good after all the beaches we have visited lately.......  We are currently about 600 metres above sea level and it's about 8 degrees outside at the moment - I think it will be a very cold night.

Tomorrow, we are going on a tag-along drive (Cost $60) to visit some of the highlights in the area.
