Day 112: Port Lincoln

Our issues with water continue - yesterday we went and bought a new thermos for $70 as our old one had packed it in and was not working effectively - anyway, the new one (a 'Thermos' brand) performed worse than our old one so I returned it and got a refund - I then went to K-Mart and spent $50 on another 'Thermos' model and voila - it works perfectly and keeps the water hot for many hours.

Secondly, it was raining after we set up yesterday and that was OK until a drip started hitting me on the head while sitting at the table. The drip was held at bay by putting a plastic container under it for the night - this morning first thing, I was up peering through the hatch again searching for the source of the leak - Lorelle was passing me containers of water so I could flood the roof and she could see if it came through - after much water we found the problem - there was a miniscule entry point in the silastec around one of the brackets holding the solar panel to the roof of the van.  This was quickly fixed and then after morning tea, we explored Port Lincoln.

(Another water issue: I forgot to mention - our ancient Sunbeam electric jug gave up the ghost yesterday - blew the circuit breakers so I bought a new $9 jug at K-Mart - it works a treat!)

There is not a lot of touristy things to do at P.L., but it is a pleasant, small city. We visited a couple of lookouts and took copious photos as usual.

We then visited the Port Lincoln marina, had lunch at the local pub and then walked around taking photos. It is worth pointing out that Port Lincoln has the largest fishing fleet in Australia - there were an incredible number of fishing boats ranging from small to huge. The prized catch is bluefin tuna which we haven't eaten yet but maybe tomorrow.

We have decided to stay in Port Linclon tomorrow (Saturday) as well then on Sunday we will leave for Port Augusta where we will only stay one night. We have decided not to visit the York Peninsula (we are a bit sick of bays and beaches) so from Port Augusta we will head to Quorn, Hawker and Wilpena in the Flinders Ranges.
